Washing & Care for Textile Accessories: Protecting Metal Finishes

The appearance of a metal accessory throughout the garment's use and care life is as important as its finish when it leaves production. Washing, drying, pressing, moisture and chemical processes can affect surface performance.

Strong chemical environments can create risks Technical care notes for metal fastening products indicate that some alloys can be more sensitive to acids and alkalis and that repeated industrial washing or strong processing conditions require careful matteerial selection.

Do not leave products wet Adequate rinsing and drying after processing are important. Prolonged damp storage, chemical residues on fabric and high-temperature/high-humidity storage can increase the risk of discoloration or corrosion.

Test washing on the finished product An accessory may perform well by itself but interact differently with fabric dyes, printing chemicals, leather tanning agents or cleaning solvents. Test with the real collection fabric and actual care recipe whenever possible.

Practical production approach - Inform the supplier of the intended washing and drying instructions. - Apply special washing or garment dye processes during sampling. - On light fabrics, check contact with metal components and possible surface transfer. - Pack goods only when fully dry and under suitable conditions before shipment.
